Training programme: Developing a coaching approach to management

Many teams fall into the trap of assuming that creating more rules or clarity around responsibilities will ensure the right decisions are being made and that people are taking responsibility for their work and their personal development. But the reality is that as the workplace and the wider world becomes more complex and volatile it is neither possible nor desirable to plan rules & guidelines for every situation.

That’s why our latest training program focuses on building a team’s capacity to coach and be coached. By developing a coaching mindset within your team you will not only give people the tools to be able to navigate uncertainty & change, but you also build the level of individual and collective awareness that is needed to underpin autonomy and empower people to use their skills in the most effective way. In addition, adopting a coaching mindset within your team will create space for people to truly feel comfortable to show vulnerability and work through challenges together.

Outcomes of the program

  • Improved decision making

    • Coaching increases awareness which in turns enables teams and individuals to more quickly make connections and come up with the right way forward

    • Coaching makes use of individuals’ intrinsic motivation - this means more decisions will be made in line with people’s values & abilities.

    • Decisions can often feel ‘stuck’ when people don’t seem to be taking action. Coaching ensures individuals take intentional actions towards achieving goals which they can be more clearly held accountable for.

  • Improved communication & clarity

    • Practicing coaching improves listening skills among coaches and also develops people’s language to explain their perspective.

    • Internal coaches gain knowledge around what drives their teams to behave in the ways they do which makes it easier to motivate people to move in the desired direction, build more mutual understanding within teams and reduce frustration around differing opinions.

  • Unlock talent, skill and opportunities within the business

    • By encouraging managers to coach their direct reports you will create space for individuals across the company to demonstrate their own potential.

    • Coaching will increase drive & motivation-levels across the company which will in turn impact the progress people are able to make

    • Coaching will empower people to unearth new perspectives which can lead to better, more creative & impactful ideas.

“Collaborative Future's coaching program enabled our managers to step away from the day-to-day and approach people management with a different perspective. The interactive lunch & learn for the whole team was a great introduction to the notion of coaching and helped prepare everyone for any changes they might see in a really open and transparent way. Since taking part in the program I've seen managers sharing what they're learning about coaching with each other, which has been really positive and encouraging. I'm excited to see how coaching helps our team grow and develop over time” - Maria, Operations Manager at Unmade
