I applied to be involved in the Collaborative Future scheme as I wanted to gain experience in the creative industry and start developing a portfolio. Having done some related bits and bobs outside of education, as well as voluntary work, I still felt like my CV was lacking. Being especially passionate about local independents, helping out a small, often one person business seemed like a big perk when applying for the scheme.

My placement involved three businesses. At Dispace, I worked with Lucinda who passed on an immense amount of knowledge, anything and everything from targeting businesses to the inner workings of online advertisement. For Rodocodo, working with Chi, I began redesigning the flow, layout and content of his website. With Pixel Shrink, Gary and I looked at brand personalities. I made some designs which aimed to refresh his old logo, in keeping with his websites theme and colour.

I really appreciated the flexibility that came with this scheme which allowed me to continue my part time hospitality work and sports training throughout the three weeks. Also, the help and advice from everyone involved in the scheme, the businesses, Tess and the Works Social team has been overwhelming. They all took interest in my future plans, tailoring their advice and putting me in contact with other freelancers.

Thank you to Tess & everyone involved.

This pilot has been made possible thanks to the support of Works Social, Cleo, Armakuni, Tech Nottingham and s.p.o design. You can find out more about our crowdfunding campaign here and pledge to support future cohorts here.
